Ingredients:
- 1 cup semolina (sooji)
- 1 small onion, finely chopped
- 1 small carrot, diced
- 1/2 cup green peas
- 1/2 tsp mustard seeds
- 1/2 tsp cumin seeds
- 1/2 tsp turmeric powder
- 1 tbsp ghee or oil
- Salt, to taste
- Fresh coriander leaves, chopped
Recipe:
- Dry roast the semolina in a pan until it’s lightly golden. Set aside.
- Heat ghee or oil in the pan, add mustard seeds and cumin seeds, and let them splutter.
- Add chopped onions, carrots, and green peas. Sauté until the vegetables are tender.
- Add turmeric powder and salt, mix well.
- Add water and bring it to a boil. Gradually add the roasted semolina while stirring continuously to avoid lumps.
- Cook until the upma thickens and all the water is absorbed.
