Brunch Idea: Veg Upma

Looking for a light and flavorful brunch idea?

Veg Upma is a traditional South Indian dish made with semolina (sooji) and mixed vegetables. It’s light, flavorful, and perfect for a wholesome brunch. Find all the ingredients for this dish at New Indian Supermarket in Tracy, California.

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup semolina (sooji)
  • 1 small onion, finely chopped
  • 1 small carrot, diced
  • 1/2 cup green peas
  • 1/2 tsp mustard seeds
  • 1/2 tsp cumin seeds
  • 1/2 tsp turmeric powder
  • 1 tbsp ghee or oil
  • Salt, to taste
  • Fresh coriander leaves, chopped

Recipe:

  1. Dry roast the semolina in a pan until it’s lightly golden. Set aside.
  2. Heat ghee or oil in the pan, add mustard seeds and cumin seeds, and let them splutter.
  3. Add chopped onions, carrots, and green peas. Sauté until the vegetables are tender.
  4. Add turmeric powder and salt, mix well.
  5. Add water and bring it to a boil. Gradually add the roasted semolina while stirring continuously to avoid lumps.
  6. Cook until the upma thickens and all the water is absorbed.

Garnish with fresh coriander leaves and serve hot. For the freshest ingredients, visit New Indian Supermarket in Tracy, California.
